Experienced Appeals Lawyers
If we are talking about an appeal, unfortunately, things did not go so well at your trial. You probably either took a plea, in which case you waived your right to an appeal, so you don’t have a case for an appeal, or you went to trial, and things did not go well for you. The first thing to understand about an appeal is, you don’t have a right to an appeal simply because you don’t like the outcome of your original trial. In order for your appeal to be successful, there must have been something that was not right at your trial that caused your trial to not comport with due process.
Possible causes for appeal could be:
- Improper Jury Instructions
- Improper Jury Selection
- The Evidence in the Case
- Motion to Suppress Denials
In other words, there must be a legal reason why you feel you are entitled to an appeal. It can’t be that you are just not happy with the outcome of your original trial. There could be other factors such as ineffective assistance of counsel that could be used in an appeal, but this could be much harder to argue.
As a last resort, if your appeal is denied, you may have an opportunity for the Supreme Court to look at your case. However, you should not rely on this because the Supreme Court takes very few cases. Not all attorneys handle appeals, so if you are considering an appeal, it is important that you consult with an attorney who has handled many appellate matters before.
The Attorneys For Freedom Law Firm has represented hundreds of clients in state and federal appellate matters as well as state and federal post-conviction proceeding matters.
