Honolulu Drug Crimes Lawyers

At the Attorneys for Freedom Law Firm, we are freedom activists who have advocated for the legalization of marijuana, and all drugs, for decades. While we discourage people from using harmful drugs, we advocate for the legal rights of competent adults to decide for themselves what substances they ingest into their bodies. Unfortunately, lawmakers have not yet learned the obvious and painful lessons from either alcohol or drug prohibition.

Drug policy and laws in Hawaii continue to reflect the longstanding failed policies of drug prohibition. As a result, many drugs, including marijuana, remain illegal in Hawaii. Fortunately, Hawaii has adopted laws supporting medical marijuana for people who have certain medical conditions, and who have legally obtained a medical marijuana card in Hawaii.

While marijuana is becoming more socially acceptable nationwide, it also remains entirely illegal under federal law. If you are found in possession of marijuana without a valid medical marijuana card, you risk being charged with a crime and possibly ending up in jail or prison. Hawaii Revised Statutes §329-14 classifies marijuana as an illegal substance.

Regarding drug offenses generally, the seriousness of the criminal offense is often determined by the amount and type of drug that was involved. Hawaii divides the various illegal drugs into five different groups or “schedules” (I through V), based on the perceived potential harm to the user. Hawaii Revised Statutes §329-13 through §329-22 identify the classifications and seriousness of many other substances deemed illegal in Hawaii. Hawaii law also determines the seriousness of various drug crimes based upon whether the substance is categorized as “dangerous,” “detrimental,” or “harmful.”

Simple drug possession is the most common variety of drug crime with which a person may be charged. Merely possessing an illegal drug in Hawaii can be a serious offense. Additionally, often a possession of drug paraphernalia charge can accompany a simple possession charge. More serious criminal charges are often brought for the person selling or manufacturing illegal drugs. These types of criminal charges can involve long prison sentences; especially in the federal court which often come with long mandatory minimum sentences.

We have represented thousands of people in including both state and federal courts charged with all types of drug crimes including the possession, distribution, trafficking, manufacture, and sales of:

Types of Drug Crimes

  • Marijuana
  • Cocaine
  • Heroin
  • Methamphetamine
  • Fentanyl
  • Ecstasy
  • Steroids
  • Prescription drugs
  • Other illegal drugs

Being charged with a drug crime in Honolulu, HI can be a very serious matter. Detectives and prosecutors often ask for harsher punishments based on many different factors. In many cases, there is a thin line between an accusation of mere possession and the more serious charge of distribution. You should not trust your freedom to an inexperienced criminal defense attorney or one who dabbles in criminal law. We have been firmly committed to representing people charged with drug crimes since 1994.

If you have been charged with any type of drug crime in Hawaii, it is crucial that you contact a Honolulu Criminal Defense Attorney with several decades of experience in representing people charged with these types of crimes. Thankfully I have not had to utilize AOR's legal services, but I am thoroughly impressed with everything that they provide, everything that they legally stipulate, as well as their customer service team. I had many questions that I would periodically call back to ask about, and both Noslen and Stacy were so incredibly helpful and patient! Noslen follows up so well and Stacy is so fun to talk to! They are selling a product that they can stand behind, and I so appreciate that they trust the free market to decide. I called USCCA in this process to understand what they offer as well and, unfortunately, the USCCA representative that I spoke to resorted to an ad hominem argument against AOR that did not stand up to the facts after I did some basic research and read through AOR's policies and agreements. Overall, my husband and I are grateful that AOR exists, especially for those who live in states that are not self-defense friendly, and that they seem to be able to back up what they say!

I haven't had to use my membership benefits yet and hope to never need to BUT the peace of mind knowing it's there is HUGE. Everyone says they would rather be tried by 12 vs. carried by 6 and I agree although if that's your logic, you may want to have a good lawyer to help you during your trial. This is the most affordable way to get that done

In my 2nd year of being a member with AOR. I appreciate knowing they would be there for me if I need them, without looking for exclusion reasons to not do their promise. Thanks AOR!

I love AOR and glad to be a member and affiliate. I hope I never have to use them but it gives me a peace of mind knowing if I ever do, they got my back. Big Thank You to Mr. Belcher. I ran a flyer idea by them due to me being a freedom affiliate and not having a hug following to be an armed affiliate. He informed me that goes against the guidelines and I immediately apologized and assured him I wouldn’t be using them flyer and deleted it from my device. He said he loved my enthusiasm for AOR and he will get with his business development team and brainstorm how they can support me and my individual needs as a freedom affiliate. Fingers crossed he can make something happen but if not, im still proud to be a member.
Response from the owner:Thank you for the thoughtful review, Kay! We truly appreciate your enthusiasm for AOR and your support as both a client and affiliate. We’re glad James was able to provide clear guidance and take the time to understand your ideas and individual needs. We’re grateful to have you as part of the AOR community and truly appreciate your trust in our team!
